Data altruism

The voluntary sharing of data based on the consent given by data subjects to the processing of personal data concerning them, or the authorisation granted by data holders for the use of their non-personal data without requesting or receiving any consideration beyond the compensation of the costs they incur when making their data available, for purposes of general interest provided for by national law, where applicable, for example healthcare, combating climate change, improving mobility, facilitating the development, production and dissemination of official statistics, improving the delivery of public services, developing public policy or scientific research in the public interest.
